It is an integrated facility that has the capacity to process frozen and whole peeled onions. Therefore, exact specifications are met with minimal waste. We utilize the latest technology in automatic defect removal equipment ensure that products meet food safety and quality specifications. Our processing equipment has been customized by our own engineers specifically for the onions in our region. Natural Resource Management
At Boardman Foods, natural resource management has been addressed with great care. All waste water disposal is handled by the Port of Morrow. The Port's water management system was installed with full endorsement and cooperation with the State of Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality. Electricity at our plant is primarily generated by renewable sources, such as the Columbia River dam system. Electricity – Most of our electricity is produced through a system of dams on the Columbia River which allows us to purchase locally generated, renewable and affordable power through our local co-op. Solid Waste – We have a unique ability to reduce waste products by sorting our raw products for use into three major finished product classifications fresh, peeled and Individually Quick Frozen. By-product generated from one process can often be used by another, thus eliminating and or reducing waste. All material not used in one of our processes is used locally as feed for livestock. Steam – We are able to utilize steam from our local co-generation plant. Steam is produced as a by-product of the electricity generating plant. This resource is both economical and reduces our electricity and natural gas use. Energy Conservation – We continually work towards finding the best solutions to reducing our energy consumption. We have partnered with the State of Oregon Department of Energy and our local electric co-op on energy efficiency projects. We are continuing to seek out the latest technology and best practices as they relate to energy conservation. Employee Services
Boardman Foods is dedicated to the safety and welfare of the employees that work hard to uphold our standards. In 2006, Boardman Foods received "SHARP" recognition from Oregon's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for the company's commitment to providing a safe work environment for its associates. As members of the local Kiwanis Club, we provide volunteers and help fund services to the local youth. Local and regional volunteer programs are sponsored and participation is encouraged throughout the organization. Monthly employee appreciation parties honor hard work, and two annual parties include employees and their family members. Numerous recognition programs allow Boardman Foods to honor those individuals who stand out in areas of creativity, teamwork, safety, food safety and productivity. Our distribution efficiency is second to none. We are located at the intersection of the two major interstate highways that service the Pacific Northwest: I-84 and I-82. In addition to our onsite rail service we are also in close proximity to a unique transportation facility, "Railex" which delivers products from the Northwest to East Coast in (5) days. There is daily barge service out of the Port of Morrow for direct shipments of containers to the Far East, and we are located on the main line of the Union Pacific Railroad. We utilize Just-In-Time (JIT) distribution practices by storing finished product at convenient cold storage facilities across the US. Shipments can be arranged from our plant on weekends and after hours. Last minute emergency shipment needs are handled promptly and given undivided attention. Boardman Foods has established itself as a leader in logistics for arranging on time deliveries and finding the best rates for shipping finished products. Customer Service
Commitment to service continues to secure long standing business partnerships with the customers of Boardman Foods, Inc. All key personnel are available 24 hours a day via cell phone. All phone calls are answered by a friendly and courteous person dedicated to aiding customers with their requests - there are no automated voice recordings. Boardman Foods has secured and dedicated partnerships with it's vendors to ensure that customer specific needs are met and solutions to specialized requests are found. Because we have our own in house micro testing facility we are able to efficiently and promptly process the samples to ensure that products meet the specification and released for shipment promptly.
